“I WANT WEINER”: #1 New York Times Bestselling AUTHOR
JENNIFER WEINER LAUNCHES REVOLUTIONARY ONLINE CAMPAIGN
TO PETITION ABC TO PICK UP HER TV PILOT “JANE AND DICK”
ABC is in the process of picking up shows for next fall, and best-selling author Jennifer Weiner’s TV pilot “Jane and Dick” may find a home on the network thanks to a revolutionary online campaign that is illuminating the intersection of television and the internet.
Weiner, one of the most popular authors in the blogosphere, is leveraging her blog, Facebook fan page, Twitter account, and all aspects of viral media to encourage her large and devout fan base to petition ABC to pick up “Jane and Dick.”
On Friday Jen wrote about the pilot on her blog “A Moment of Jen”, urging fans to email the network and tell executives I WANT WEINER on TV. Since Weiner’s post, fans have stormed her blog and Facebook page, pledging their support to get “Jane and Dick” on ABC TV. Several petitions are also circulating the internet. Thousands of people have signed the petition entitled I WANT WEINER, and the numbers are growing by the minute. Other authors have taken up the rallying cry on Twitter and Facebook, and celebrities are now joining the movement. Days of Our Lives soap opera star Mark Hapka is twittering and posting on his face book page to support I WANT MY WEINER.
While viewers have petitioned to save shows before, this is the first time fans have petitioned to get a pilot shot– and their voices are being heard by ABC.
“Jane and Dick” is about a funny, smart, sensitive, slightly insecure lady lawyer, the all-female law firm she’s created, and what happens when her teenage crush and her big sister’s ex-boyfriend comes to work in her feminist Utopia. It takes elements of all Jen’s favorite shows (Ally McBeal, Moonlighting, L.A. Law, Sex and the City) and gives them all of the wit and heart, and the kind of well-rounded, realistic heroine that readers have come to expect from her fiction.
Weiner is the author of six novels, including Good in Bed, In Her Shoes, and last summer’s Best Friends Forever, a number-one New York Times bestseller.
